ABOUT SOCIOLOGY DEPARTMENT
I warmly welcome you to the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social & Management Sciences (FSMS) Federal University Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, the Land of Equity. The Department is proud to have dedicated and committed staff that interact together as members of one big family. When it comes to academic excellence the Department is second to none, it is known for its strict adherence to the University rules and regulations. The Department is proud to be a shining example for the adoption of 75 percent lecture attendance for students to be eligible to sit for examinations.
Let me use this opportunity to inform you about the Honors list and awards to be instituted in the Department to enhance academic excellence and good performance among students. All students are enjoyed to strive and work hard to be on the Honors list. The Honors list will be at three (3) levels: Departmental Honors list, Dean’s Honors list, and University’s/Vice Chancellor’s Honors list. The beneficiaries or the students who excel must have a CGPA of between 4.5 and 5.0 equivalent to first class. The student should maintain this grade/class at all levels of the four-year degree programme to be able to enjoy the award(s). Names of the beneficiaries shall be displayed at the notice boards of the Department, Faculty, and University’s Senate Building. Each beneficiary shall be entailed to automatic employment with the University.
The Department’s staff will always be available to guide and offer advice and tips. Students are strongly encouraged to familiarize themselves with details of this Handbook and, especially, the academic expectations, as everyone remains fully responsible for meeting the requirements for the award of the degree. This Handbook, as well as other related pamphlets from other organs of the University should be retained and studied thoroughly as together they are companions to the students and with whom familiarity is essential. Where you feel confused, unascertained, or do not understand anything in the publications, do not hesitate to consult with any officials who will be delighted to assist.
Once again, welcome to the Department of Sociology and remember to enjoy every bit of the learning experience at the FUBK. By all means, go through the University and let the University experience go through you. Best of luck!
