ABOUT BIOCHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology was established in 2013 to cater for the rising need for Biochemists in the core catchment areas of the University. The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the Faculty of Science is responsible for running B.Sc. Honours Degree Programme in Biochemistry, teaching basic Biochemistry course to students in the College of Health Sciences School of basic Medical Sciences, and any other Faculty that may require the course. Other specialized Biochemistry topics required by these Faculties can also be arranged and taught by the Department. The department will be undertaking research in diverse field of biosciences namely, pharmacological biochemistry, toxicology, medicinal chemistry, nutrition, molecular biology, biotechnology, medical as well as environmental biochemistry. The Department is endowed with eight (8) professors who coordinate researchers in various fields of Biosciences. The Department also has twelve (12) other academic staff, supported by four (4) laboratory and secretarial staff.
