ABOUT ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE

The BSc accounting programme is designed to produce professional accountants who are competent, accountable and transparent in the management of financial resources for the ultimate attainment of Nigerian economic development. Based on this the programme equips the students with the theoretical and practical knowledge that develops self-confidence encourage innovation as well as self- reliance. Department of accounting is one of the pioneer departments in the Faculty of Arts Social and Management Sciences, of the Federal University Birnin-Kebbi, which was established on 18th February, 2013. It commences undergraduate academic activities in November, 2014 for the 2014/2015 academic session, after the approval was granted by the National Universities Commission. The department started with nineteen (19) students who were offered admission to study BSc. Accounting programme through the UTME. Dr. Musa Yelwa Abubakar was the pioneer Head of the Department (HOD) and four (4) teaching staff whom also became pioneer staff as follows: Prof. A.M. Bashir, (the former Dean of FASMS) Dr. Ali Shariff Kabara, Abubakar Modibbo, ACA and Mal. Ibrahim Alkali, FCA. Presently, the department has 11 academic staff which comprises: 3 Professor, 5 Senior Lecturers, 1 Lecturer I, 1 Lecturer II and Nine of the academic staff have PhD. The department has commenced Postgraduate programmes during the 2022/2023 academic session. The Department emerged as the best in the first academic year of the university in students performance as disclosed in the maiden Senate meeting on Examination Results’ Considerations. Moreover, two (2) of the three (3) university awards had been won by accounting students as a result of their brilliant performance which of course, signifies the bright future and prospects of the Department.
