The Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK) is set to host the North-West Zonal Advocacy and Sensitisation Programme of the Reproductive Right Society of Nigeria (REPRONIG) on Thursday, October 22, 2026.
The one-day programme, themed "On the Nigerian Copyright Law and the Role of REPRONIG," will be conducted in hybrid format, with participation available both physically and online.
The programme is designed to sensitise stakeholders on the provisions of the Nigerian Copyright Law, particularly as they relate to the use, reproduction, distribution and dissemination of copyrighted literary and scholarly works.
It will also deepen stakeholders' understanding of REPRONIG's role in promoting respect for copyright and protecting the interests of authors and other rightsholders.
Speaking to the FUBK Bulletin on the programme, the North-West Regional Coordinator of REPRONIG and Dean, Faculty of Arts, Prof. Asabe Kabir Usman, said the programme would provide an important platform for stakeholders to deepen their understanding of copyright law and promote the responsible use of intellectual works.
She said the initiative was particularly relevant to the university community, given the extensive use, reproduction and dissemination of scholarly and literary materials in teaching, learning and research.
Prof. Usman urged members of the University community and other stakeholders across the North-West to take advantage of the programme, noting that increased awareness of copyright obligations would help promote respect for authors' rights while facilitating lawful access to educational and research materials.
The programme is expected to draw participants from tertiary institutions and other relevant organisations across Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kaduna, Jigawa, Kano and Katsina States.
Expected participants include heads of tertiary institutions, librarians, academic and administrative heads, lecturers, researchers, writers and authors, publishers, business centre operators, students and copyright practitioners.
The programme will feature presentations, interactive sessions and discussions, while certificates will be issued to all participants at the conclusion of the advocacy programme.
Interested stakeholders are encouraged to register through the online registration portal provided by the organisers: https://forms.gle/GLhp6LbBDaqS1kZA8.
