The Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK) has announced plans to construct two additional hostels to address accommodation challenges arising from increasing student population.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Muhammad Zaiyan Umar, disclosed this at the 11th matriculation ceremony held on Wednesday 15th April, 2026.

Umar said that the initiative was part of efforts to expand infrastructure and provide a conducive learning environment for students.

The VC said that a total of 2,320 Undergraduate students were matriculated into various academic programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Prof. Umar added that the institution's Postgraduate school admitted 197 candidates, reflecting increasing public confidence in the university.

"This impressive number underscores the growing confidence of the public in our postgraduate school and the quality of education offered at FUBK," he said.

According to him, the growing number of students has made it necessary for the university to embark on strategic expansion, particularly in the area of accommodation.

He also said that the university had deployed CCTV surveillance systems across its campuses and strengthened collaboration with security agencies, host communities and landlords to enhance safety.

Umar urged the newly admitted students to remain focused, disciplined and committed to their studies.

He assured parents and guardians of the university's commitment to maintaining high standards in academic delivery and student welfare.

FUBK Bulletin reports that the ceremony was attended by principal officers of the University, Deans, Directors, Heads of department, staff, parents and well-wishers.
