Fifty-six 300-Level students of the Department of Sociology, Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK) have embarked on an educational field visit to the Kanta Museum and other historical and cultural sites as part of their Continuous Assessment for SOC 305 – Social Anthropology.
The visit, held on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, was led by the course lecturer, Abdulmumin Musa Omiya, to provide students with practical exposure to culture, material heritage, traditional institutions, livelihoods and social organisation.
At the Kanta Museum, the students were received by the Head of Education, Sanusi Alhassan, who took them through the museum's collections and explained the historical and cultural significance of the artefacts.
The contingent also visited Matan Fada and a fishing village, where they observed traditional livelihoods, environmental adaptation and community life.
Speaking to FUBK Bulletin, Mr Omiya said the exercise enabled the students to connect classroom theories with real-life experiences through direct observation and interaction with historical and cultural resources.
He said the visit would contribute to their Continuous Assessment while deepening their understanding of the links between culture, history, environment and social organisation, as well as the importance of preserving indigenous heritage.
