Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK) has once again basked in national recognition as one of its alumni, Peter Aruwan Yakubu, a graduate of the Department of Geology (Class of 2021), has been conferred with the NYSC Presidential Award; a prestigious honour reserved for outstanding corps members across the country.

Peter was among 210 exceptional corps members honoured by His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCON, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, at a special award ceremony held at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. His selection was based on his exemplary service and impactful Community Development Service (CDS) project during his deployment to Borno State.

In his heartfelt reaction to FUBK Bulletin, Peter expressed immense gratitude, saying, "This recognition is a testament to my dedication and hard work during my NYSC service year in Borno. From the onset, I viewed my service year as a unique opportunity to serve God and humanity. I threw myself into various initiatives, driven by compassion and a desire to effect positive change."

He added that his CDS project was born out of a sincere desire to make a lasting impact in his host community and was motivated not by recognition, but by a deep sense of purpose. "I never anticipated this recognition, but I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve and make a difference," he said.

As part of the Presidential Award, Peter will receive automatic employment into the federal civil service and a fully funded scholarship for postgraduate studies (MSc to Ph.D.) in Nigeria, a reward that opens new doors for growth and service.

Speaking further, Peter praised the training and values he received at FUBK: "This achievement is a reflection of the quality education and training I received at Federal University Birnin Kebbi. I'm proud to have represented FUBK at the presidential level. The university helped groom me into the man I am today."

Meanwhile, the management of FUBK has expressed great pride in Peter's achievement, describing it as another feather in the cap of the institution's steadily rising profile. His recognition adds to the university's growing reputation for producing graduates who lead with purpose and integrity.
