The Nigerian Institute of Physics (NIP) has awarded Dr. Abdulrahman Idris Augie of the Department of Applied Geophysics, Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK), the Best PhD Thesis Award for 2025.

Dr. Augie's award-winning thesis is titled: "Integrated Geophysical Assessment for Solid Mineral's Potential Zones over Anka/Mary's Schist Belt, Northwestern Nigeria Using Airborne Magnetic, Radiometric, and 2-D Magnetic Modelling Techniques."

The award was part of the NIP's maiden Annual Best PhD Thesis Awards Series in the fields of Geophysics and Physics. The debut award recognizes outstanding doctoral research defended at any Nigerian university between February 2024 and February 2025, a timeline that will be upheld in subsequent years.

FUBK Bulletin reports that the Nigerian Institute of Physics was established in 1973 after a sojourn as a unit of the Science Association of Nigeria (SAN) Physics Section.

The award highlights increasing national recognition of FUBK's contributions to cutting-edge research in geophysical sciences. It also reinforces the University's commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and impactful scholarship.
