The Department of Building was established in 2015 with a mandate to provide education in several aspects of the built environment. The Department is built on providing quality teaching in a supportive academic environment with researches centered on tackling current global and indigenous challenges at sustainable development, construction project management, structural mechanics, traditional construction methods and materials, low cost housing etc. The Bachelor of Science (Building) Degree programme is one of the first three programmes started in the Faculty of Environmental Sciences in 2015, with the aim of training well-rounded and high level building professionals. The programme is built on five major components or module of courses namely; General Studies Courses, Foundation Courses, Professional Courses, Entrepreneurial Courses and Workshop Practices. Giving due cognizance to the present and future requirements and standards of the local, national and international construction industry, building professionals are generally trained for the development and maintenance of the built environment. Thus, the profession is broad and the B.Sc. Building courses are; Science, Technology, Management and Arts based. Some of the courses include; Building Structures, Building Materials, Building Services, Building Assembly/Construction Technology and Techniques, Buildability and Maintainability Analyses, Sociology, Building Construction Process and Methodology, Building Health Safety Plan, (Project Management, Site Management, Contract Management, Financial Management, Building Production, Building Survey, Maintenance and Facility Management). It is expected that building graduates of this University shall be dynamic and global participants in the pursuit of excellence in the provision of expert advices and execution of cutting edge researches in all areas of the Building Profession.
