FUBK INSTITUTIONALIZES MENTORSHIP, ENGAGES ACADEMIC STAFF ON SENSITIZATION WORKSHOP

The Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK), in its bid to enhance capacity building of Staff, has on Thursday 3rd October,2024 organized a One-Day Sensitization Workshop to Academic Staff of the University. The Workshop, titled “Roles and Responsibilities of an Academic Staff,” was divided into three (3) sessions, with many notable professors from both within and outside the University as facilitators.

The first session, chaired by the Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof. U T Muhammad, had lectures on “University Administration and Channels of Communication” delivered by the Registrar of the University, Abubakar Aliyu, and another paper titled “A University Lecturer” by Prof. A. A Bagudo of the Faculty of Education, and also a lecture on “Lecture Delivery and Students’Assessment” by Prof. Asabe Kabir Usman (Dean, Faculty of Arts), while Prof. K.J. Umar, delivered a lecture on “University Promotion Guidelines for Academic Staff.”

The second session, chaired by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Aliyu Abdullahi Turaki, featured lectures on “University Examination Administration” by Prof. Isa Garba Abor, “Invigilation As a Tool for Successful Examination” by Dr. Umar Muhammad, “Staff-Student Relationship” by Prof. Ibrahim Magawata (Dean of Students Affairs), and “Role of Library in Career Development of Academic Staff” by Prof. AA Balarabe, the University Librarian.

Professor Kasimu Shehu (Director, Research and Innovation) chaired the third session, which included lectures on “Publication and Collaboration” by Prof. Abbas Yusuf Bazata (Director, BRI), “Staff Training and Development” by Barr. Abdulkadir Abubakar, “Mentoring and Community Service” by Professor Tukur Dikko Zauro, and “Curriculum Development” by Dr. Mera. The speakers showcased their expertise in inculcating knowledge to the teeming academic staff that attended the workshop, and questions and answers were entertained.

Earlier in his address, the Vice Chancellor, Federal University Birnin Kebbi, Professor Muhammad Zaiyan Umar, charged the participants to utilize the opportunity given to them in shaping their career which will in turn positively affect the development of the University and its students.
